Wade Resigns from Boys Basketball Post

Head Boys Basketball Coach Lynwood Wade announced his resignation Monday to focus on his two children and his administrative role as a Dean at Muskogee High School.

MUSKOGEE, Okla. – Muskogee High School boys basketball head coach Lynwood Wade announced his resignation from his coaching position Monday.

Wade is resigning to focus on his administrative role within the district where he serves as a Dean at MHS and to focus on his two children.

“Coach Wade has done a great job reestablishing the competitiveness of our boys basketball program. While the loss of leadership is a blow, we are thankful for the job he has done as our Head Coach and wish him the best as he takes this time to focus on his family and career,” said Executive Director of Athletics Dr. Jason Parker.

A 2016 Muskogee High School Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, Wade took the reins of his alma mater in 2019. He led the Roughers to its first Regional Championship in twelve years in 2022, marking the fourth regional championship in his coaching career. In 2021, he was recognized as MPS Athletic Department Coach of the Year and tied for first place in the Frontier Conference.

This season the Roughers topped Union and Class 6A No. 1 Jenks in the East Regional on the way to an 8-12 record, Regional Championship, and the program’s second consecutive Area Tournament appearance. In 2021, Muskogee won seven consecutive conference contests on the way to an 11-6 record, won three games over top-ten opponents, and knocked off Bixby in the East Regional.

Wade joined MHS after six years as head coach of East Central High School in Tulsa, guiding the Cardinals to regional championships in 2014, 2015, and 2016. His 2016 EC squad claimed an Area Consolation Championship and State Tournament appearance.

His coaching career began at Boynton-Moton High School as head basketball coach where he served for three years before the school closed in 2011. Wade joined Will Rogers Collegiate High School in Tulsa as a varsity assistant coach before joining East Central in 2012.

He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Texas State University and a Master’s Degree in Education Administration from the University of Oklahoma.

Muskogee Public Schools will immediately begin the search for a new head boys basketball coach and plan to bring a recommendation to the Board of Education at the May Board meeting.
