After finishing non-district play with a 3-0 record, Muskogee begins its chase for the Class 6A-II playoffs opening class 6A-II district action when the Roughers travel to Sand Springs.
Muskogee returns to play following an open date while the Sandites, last year’s 6A-II semifinalists, are fresh off a 48-25 victory over Ponca City to enter the second season competition with a 2-1 mark.
In their last outing, a 35-28 road win over Carl Albert, Muskogee quarterback Jamarian Ficklin totaled 485 yards total offense including a 25-35 night passing for 375 yards and three scores plus another two rushing touchdowns as the talented sophomore totaled 110 yards rushing.
Muskogee’s defense continues to pursue its opponents with aggression while making key plays in the secondary including a late pass interception by senior Jayden Bell to secure the win over the Titans.
Sand Springs, who has won the last two meetings against Muskogee including a 45-34 verdict in the 2021 matchup, return four offensive starters including wide receivers Jacob Blevins and Brody Rutledge. The offensive firepower will showcase running back Kenneth Page, who enters game four averaging 121 yards rushing per game.
The Roughers linebacker trio including Treyveon Houston, Brandon Tolbert and Deshawn Smith will play key roles along with the defensive front line quartet including Teyon Brewer, Anthony Watson, Ayrion Parish and Vernon Pepiakitah.
A win in their district opener will give Muskogee a 4-0 start for the first time since 2019.
Game time at Memorial Stadium in Sand Springs is set for 7pm.
