Seeking to secure an 8-0 record for the first time since 1980, the Muskogee Roughers will travel for the fifth time this year to play Booker T. Washington at S.E. Williams stadium in the 26th meeting between the two tradition rich football programs.
The number-3 ranked Roughers, who average 47.6 points per game, will seek to even the series in games played in Tulsa and pick up their first win over the Hornets since 2019. The Muskogee offense that averages 457 yards per game, is engineered by sophomore quarterback Jamarian Ficklin who has completed 29 touchdown passes this season spread into the sure hands of seven different receivers including Kayden McGee who has 10 touchdown receptions. The Roughers ground game averages 201 yards per game anchored by the tandem of Brandon Tolbert and LaTavion Johnson and the big play threat of sophomore Ondraye Beasley, who has raced to the end zone twice while averaging 22 yards per carry on 19 carries.
Defensively, Muskogee must contain the Hornets senior quarterback Lathan Boone who scorched the Roughers for seven touchdown passes in last year’s 54-21 and limit the big play potential of wide receiver Micah Tease, an early commit to the University of Arkansas. The Roughers defense has been stingy giving up just 13.8 points per game through seven contests by limiting the opponents to only 75 yards rushing per contest and forcing 13 turnovers including 10 pass interceptions and recording 13 quarterback sacks. Teyon Brewer, Ayrion Parrish, Parker Pellet and Tim Moore will anchor the defensive front allowing linebackers Brandon Tolbert, Trayveon Houston and Deshawn Smith to make plays at linebacker.
Muskogee, 4-0 in District 6AII-II play can assure themselves of a top tier playoff spot with the win over the Hornets.
Game time is set for 7pm. The game will be broadcast via livestream on YouTube.com/RougherTV and can be heard on radio on KTFX 101.7fm.
