Muskogee Public Schools invites the community to attend the Rougher Village Arena Ribbon Cutting and Open House on Sunday, January 15 at 2 p.m.
The event will include a brief program featuring remarks from MPS Superintendent Dr. Jarod Mendenhall, MPS School Board President Larry Stewart and City of Muskogee Mayor Marlan Coleman followed by an official ribbon cutting.
Guests will have the opportunity to tour the facility and enjoy light refreshments. The event is free and open to the public.
“We look forward to the community joining us as we mark this moment and celebrate another milestone that improves the lives of our students and enhances our community,” said Dr. Jarod Mendenhall, Superintendent of Muskogee Public Schools. “It’s a great way to bring in the new year as we consider our many recent accomplishments and anticipate all that the future will hold.”
About Rougher Village and the 2019 Bond
Rougher Village is home to the new high school stadium, press box, and multi-use arena. The stadium debuted on Sept. 2 for the Muskogee High School varsity football season home opener.
In October, MHS hosted 13 bands and nearly 2,000 students for the OSSAA East Regional Band Contest.
The first varsity basketball game to be hosted in the new arena is scheduled for Jan. 13. The arena will house football and basketball locker rooms and training facilities, staff offices, and the Rougher Spirit Store.
As a regional destination, Rougher Village will serve to attract area and state-wide events to Muskogee which positively impacts tourism and the local economy. The facility will host school events and community events with the capacity to host regional competitions and tournaments.
The facility was a flagship project of the 2019 bond proposal recommended by the Muskogee Public Schools long range planning committee, set forth by the board of education and passed by a supermajority citizen vote. The bond includes 13 projects at school sites throughout the district. To date, seven bond construction projects have been completed and three projects are currently underway.
