ROUGHER DUO SIGN THE DOTTED LINE-sponsored by Nissan of Muskogee

A pair of standout football players signed college letters of intent Wednesday at Rougher Village.

Quarterback Jamarian “Byrd” Ficklin signed a national letter of intent to play at the University of Utah next year and lineman Miguel Chavez signed a letter of intent with Oklahoma State.

“Byrd” started at quarterback all four years of high school leading the Roughers to a state semifinal berth in 2022 and the Class 6A-II state championship last year. “He’s been a big reason for the success we’ve had here at Muskogee in recent years,” said head coach Travis Hill. “He’s set a high standard of accomplishment for football at Muskogee and is a true leader.” In his four years, Ficklin has passed for 10,711 yards and 119 touchdowns, placing him fifth in state history for yards passing in a career.

Miguel transferred to Muskogee last year and was the leader of a re-built offensive line in 2024 that won a district title and a team that has posted a perfect 12-0 mark this year.

“Miguel has really blossomed into the kind of player we thought he would be when he came here last year and part of the reason for that is that he has all of intangibles that separate good players from great players,” said Rougher head coach Travis Hill. “Having been a part of our championship team last year has been huge in terms of helping us rebuild our offensive line this year because he knows our culture and what it takes to win the gold ball.”

And speaking of the gold ball, Byrd, Miguel and the rest of the Roughers will be looking to make it two straight gold balls for the trophy case this Saturday as they play Choctaw for the 6A-II state title in Edmond.

CONGRATS ON YOUR FUTURE GUYS AND TAKE STATE!!!
