ROUGHER ICON TO BE HONORED-sponsored by York Street Tire

Ted Clement, who coached the Muskogee Roughers to their only state basketball championship in 1975, is one of 13 veteran coaches that will be inducted into the Oklahoma Coaches Association Hall of Fame this summer.

Clement compiled a record of 279-109 in his years as the Rougher head coach during the early years of integration until the mid-1980’s. Even though his 1975 team took the state title, his 1978 team may have been one of the best ever at MHS. They compiled a record of 24-4 and went to the state tournament where they were upset in the semifinals. The team included several players, including Clément’s son Reggie, who went on to play in college. Clement was previously inducted into the Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame.

Former Rougher assistant football and Wagoner basketball coach Joe Gordon is also on the list along with longtime Northeastern State basketball coach Randy Gipson who will receive the Distinguished Service Award.

The OCA induction ceremony will be held in Tulsa on July 26.
