With three senior pitchers already committed to playing at the next level, the Rougher baseballers go into the 2026 season with a high degree of confidence.
“I’ve got a lot of optimism about this group,” said coach John Singler. “I’ve got seven seniors back this year which is the most I’ve ever had and even though we’re fighting a couple of injuries right now, If we can get everybody back healthy, I feel we’ll be pretty competitive and I’m excited to see what this team can do.”
Leading the way on the hill for the Roughers is Avery Browning who was 5-2 last year and had a 2.33 ERA with 43 strikeouts. He has committed to play at Seminole State next year along with fellow pitcher senior Doc Estes, another four-year starter.
“I think with Avery on the mound we have a chance against anybody,” said the head coach.
The other returning starters who will also see some time on the hill are senior Kal’el Tripp who has committed to Connors State for next year and junior Owen Gilliam who missed a good part of last year but still hit .260.
Owen’s brother Rock, a senior, can also throw the rock but is currently rehabbing a shoulder injury and his status is uncertain.

Other contributors for the Roughers will be sophomores Truth Dedmon who hit .330 last year with 23 RBIs and Nate Adair who missed last year with a knee injury and will catch or play outfield, senior outfielder Chris Daniels who hit .283 last year and had 30 stolen bases and newcomer Ra’Shaun Puckett, a freshman left hand hitter with some pop in his bat.
“I think if he can crack the starting lineup, he’ll produce some extra-base hits for us, said Singler. “Overall, the outlook for this season is the best we’ve seen since I’ve been here and I’m excited to get going.”
