
Taking advantage of scoring points in 14 of 17 events, Muskogee boys’ track team captured the overall team championship at the Mike Adair Invitational at Pryor. The Roughers, who will compete in Class 5A this spring, captured gold medals in four events including the 4×100 meter relay along with first place points in field events including shot put, long jump and high jump where the Roughers Zion Dedmon won the gold medal for a second consecutive meet with a personal record of 6’-2” while teammates Bryce Thornton (2nd), Ramon Garcia (5th) and Jamie Beasley (6th) also scored points. Also claiming gold medals were Ondraye Beasley (long jump), O’Shea Stevenson (shot put) while the speed of Jayden Swanson, Kayden McGee, Kenyon Goodson and Jamarian Ficklin sprinted around the oval in a time of 43.04 to win first place in the 4x100m relay. A total of 21 athletes scored points for the Roughers boys’ team.

The Muskogee girls made the most of their opportunities scoring in eight of 17 events totaling 87 points to finish in third place among the 15 teams competing. Diamond Lewis sparkled with two gold medal individual performances winning the 100m and 300m hurdles races. Lewis would join efforts with Malaysia Burton, Rakiya Lang and Jayda Wordlow to win the 4x100m relay and team with Jayda Wordlow, Rakiya Lang and Avery Sayre to win the 4x400m relay. By finishing first place in the 200m dash, Jayda Wordlow finished the event with three gold medals as nine members of the girls squad added to the team success.
“I thought we competed really well and produced some great results at Pryor,” said coach Craig Perry. “I was very happy with our efforts and I believe that we will be very competitive at the Class 5A level this season in both boys and girls competition.”
Muskogee will return to the track this Friday against what is expected to be a highly competitive field at Tahlequah.
