Softball has been part of Charlesia Normore’s life since she was fout years old. More than a decade later, the Muskogee High School junior is still on the field, but the work she is putting in now reaches well beyond athletics.

Normore plays softball and basketball while also participating in Muskogee’s early college program. Taking college classes during high school has added another responsibility to an already busy schedule, but it also has her moving closer to her goal of becoming an ultrasound technician.

“Balancing school, early college classes, and softball hasn’t always been easy, but I’ve stayed committed,” Normore said. “I’m also proud that all of my hard work is helping me get closer to my goal of becoming an ultrasound technician.”

Softball has been a constant throughout that journey. The years she has spent playing have taught her discipline and teamwork, along with the importance of continuing through difficult moments.

“Softball has taught me discipline, teamwork, and to never give up,” Normore said. “Those lessons have helped me become stronger, more responsible, and work better with others.”

Normore has found people at Muskogee who reinforce those lessons. She credits Mrs. Laymon with believing in her and creating a positive environment that has encouraged her to keep working. On the field, teammate Kelashia Smith has made an impression through her work ethic, leadership and support of those around her.

Away from athletics and academics, Normore enjoys spending time at Honor Heights Park, where the flowers, walking trails and scenery offer a place to relax when her schedule slows down.

Through it all, Normore said her parents, Charles Normore and Montoya Patterson, have been behind her, encouraging her in school, sports and life. Their support has helped her continue pursuing the goals she has set for herself.

“I’m grateful for every opportunity I’ve been given, and I plan to keep working hard both in the classroom and on the softball field,” Normore said. “I’m excited to continue growing as a student, an athlete, and a person while working toward my future goals.”
