Eleven members of Muskogee High’s 2023 Class 6AII state championship football team gathered on February 7 to take part in the first day of National Letter of Intent Signing Day in festivities at Rougher Village. Some players made their college destinations known for the first time while others followed through on earlier verbal commitments.
Wide receiver Kayden “Big Play” McGee was one of those that officially signed after verbally committing to the University of Nevada-Las Vegas while the giant of the offensive line 6’8” Wesley Harvey did the same on his commitment to Texas Christian University.
While players like McGee and “Byrd” Ficklin got a lot of the glory, the Rougher offensive line deserves a lot of the credit as well and several members of that group signed on to college scholarships. Teyon Brewer and Vernon Pepiakitah played on both sides of the ball in the line with Brewer headed to Missouri Western University and “Pep” going to the University of Central Oklahoma. Center Brayd’n Henry and tackle Kaleb Huston will play at Southwestern State.
The Rougher defense also had its share of players headed for the college ranks. The “Ant Man”
Anthony Watson, who also spent time at tight end, is headed to Northeastern Oklahoma (NEO) along with defensive back Jayden Swanson. Defensive linemen Deyon Bowler will head to East Central University while Parker Pellet will set out for Alva to play at Northwestern State and defensive back Martell Bolden will play next year at Langston.
CONGRATS TO THESE SENIORS AND GOOD LUCK IN COLLEGE!!
