With two of their five golfers posting Top 10 results, the Muskogee girls’ golf team
captured their second tournament title for the spring season by winning the team
championship at the Sand Springs Lady Sandite Invitational with an eight-stroke
advantage over the second place team. Muskogee junior Raegan Essex won medalist
honors for the second time this season to lead the Roughers to the title while Ella
Wilson, also a junior, finished in sixth place. Nizhoni Mason (Sr.), Olivia Locke (So.),
and Aubi Hawke (So.) also contributed to the team championship on the challenging
layout on the Canyons at Blackjack Ridge course.
“This course is always a challenge for golfers as there seems to be an obstacle on
every hole,” said head coach Ryan Dvorak. “Whether lack of visibility or change of
elevation, it was easy for the girls to get discouraged.
With two tournaments scheduled for next week including Indian Springs on April 1
and Cherokee Springs on April 4, Dvorak was all smiles in complimenting the
Roughers competitive mindset.
“I was proud of all five girls for having a positive mindset and trying to better
themselves by taking a one shot at a time mindset.”
