Muskogee football fans will get a chance to see if two heads are better than one as the Roughers debut their new co-offensive coordinator look this week.
Veteran Rougher coach Ryan Dvorak will team with newcomer Levy Adcock to run the Muskogee offense and they and head coach Travis Hill answered questions about how this came about and how it will work.
HILL: In December I knew that coach (Tuffy) Thornton was retiring, and offensive coordinator Chris Risenhoover was contemplating doing the same, so I knew some changes were coming. I contacted coach Adcock who is a darn good line coach that could coach at just about any level and invited him.
ADCOCK: I was coaching at Tulsa Rogers when coach Hill called and asked if I would I be interested in becoming offensive line coach. I said sure and came on board early this year.
HILL: About the same time coach Risenhoover decided to retire from coaching so I had several folks in mind to take that job. One of them was coach Dvorak who has coached our line and our receivers and coach Adcock was also in the mix. In the end I decided that each had offensive strengths, so I made them co-coordinators.
VYPE: So how will this work on game night?
ADCOCK: I will handle more of the run game side of things including blocking assignments. I will be the one calling the plays but will lean heavily on Ryan in passing situations.
DVORAK: I’ll coordinate the passing attack with input from the other coaches about what pass plays to use each week based on how they performed in practice.
VYPE: Should we expect to see many changes from what coach Risenhoover was doing?
ADCOCK: We’re trying to keep as much of the language the same, but every new guy comes in with some different twists and flavors to the mix and I’ll marry that with coach Dvorak on what we ran last year and how we might change up a little.
DVORAK: With veterans like (Jamarian) Ficklin and Ondraye Beasley back, it lets us add some new wrinkles to the passing game and I think we’ll have a group of receivers that can be really special.
This “dynamic duo” will see how it all works out as the Roughers open defense of their Class 6A-II state championship this Friday at Rougher Village hosting Tulsa Washington.
