IT’S FUTBOL TIME AGAIN-sponsored by Tropical Smoothie Cafe

The spring soccer season is underway for the Rougher guys and gals and here’s a look at what to look for on the pitch this year.

Girl’s coach Oscar Flores has a solid group of returners from last year plus one newcomer that he has high hopes for.

“We have four senior starters returning in Mia Gonzales, Rayce Duncan, Hallie Lynch and Nayetzi Romero plus a pair of sophomores who started last year as freshmen in Dayana Vasquez and Yesenia Perales-Guiterrez, “said Flores. “We’ve also a freshman in Jayci Clark who is exciting. She’s already scored two goals for us in our tie games with Coweta and Fort Gibson. She’s a great player who runs hard, is technically gifted and has good physicality.”

Boy’s coach Diego Zavala has three starters returning in Jack Pool and Kruz Lira as well as Cruz Colina, but the rest of the lineup is a work in progress.

“We have two freshmen that will start for us this year in Isandro Gloria and Bejamin Pool. Even though they’re young, they’ll play an important role for us and I’m excited to see them get this opportunity to start,” said Zavala.

After spending last year in Class 5A, soccer returns to 6A this year and brings it with the usual numbers challenges that Muskogee faces. The district this year includes Broken Arrow, Bixby, Owasso, Westmoore, Mustang, Bartlesville and Sand Springs.

“The bigger schools will be tough, but I think we’ll be competitive against the smaller of those schools in Bartlesville and Sand Springs,” said Flores.

“We always have the mentality to go out and compete as best we can, but it will be a challenge against schools with much larger numbers than we have,” said Zavala
