As the 2025-26 wrestling season winds down, coach Steve Adair spoke about the season thus far, some of its accomplishments and some of the wrestlers who have been a part of that success.
“I couldn’t be prouder of this young wrestling team. We are building something special and the future is bright,” said Adair. “The hard work these athletes have put in has resulted in a team second place finish at both the Morey Villareal Tournament at Tulsa Rogers and the Ray Murphy Jr. Memorial Tournament at Tulsa Hale this year. This group is hungry, improving every week and just getting started.”

Among the individual wrestlers Adair singled out for recognition are junior Devin Harlin at 285 pounds who placed first at the Joe Cole Tournament and the Villareal Tournament and fourth at the Murphy Memorial Tournament; senior Wesley Platt at 113 pounds who won the Villareal and Murphy Tournaments and placed second at the Gary McKee Bulldog Classic; Eduardo Carrasco who finished second at the Murphy Tournament and third at the Cole Classic and Peyton Butler at 120 pounds who placed second at the McKee and Murphy tournaments, third at the Villareal tournament and fourth at the Nunley tournament.
Adair also noted the continued improvement and contributions of underclassmen JaKarri Ashley and Wyatt North as well as junior Isaiah Zardeneta.
On the girl’s side, Adair praised junior Cyniah Newton at 130 pounds who in her first year of wrestling placed first at the Murphy Tournament, second at the McKee Classic and the Ray Nunley Tournament at Tulsa Edison and third at the Doug Rial Memorial Tournament at Pryor.
The Rougher grapplers will take part in regionals the week of February 16 and those who qualify will move on to state at the end of the month.
