Muskogee High School senior Anthony McNac Jr. is entering his final season with a clear mindset shaped by family, competition and personal growth. The wide receiver credits his father as his biggest influence.

“My dad — hearing his stories as a kid just made me want to play even more and grow as a person,” McNac said.

McNac balances athletics with academics, where math stands out as his favorite subject. He also points to Andrew Odell as his favorite teacher, someone who has made an impact in the classroom. McNac understands that success requires consistency in every area of life, and he approaches school with the same focus he brings to football.

On the field, McNac embraces both the mental and physical challenges of playing wide receiver.

“You have to know what type of cuts to do on the fly because you can’t second guess,” he said. “At receiver, you stick with the first move and go.”

That split-second decision-making is part of what he enjoys most about the position, where preparation and instinct often make the difference between an ordinary play and a big gain.

One of his most memorable experiences came during his junior season against Bartlesville, when he recorded two catches for two touchdowns totaling 90 yards, along with three to four tackles on defense. It was the kind of all-around performance that showcased his versatility and ability to make an impact whenever his number was called.

McNac said the competitiveness across the roster stands out, from the quarterback position to special teams. He also values the bond within the program.

“The staff is amazing — top-of-the-line trainers, and strength and conditioning is off the charts,” he said. “Teammates treat you like you’re their brother. What happens on the field stays on the field.”

His pregame routine reflects both focus and balance. McNac takes a short walk to talk with his dad about his goals, then steps away mentally before re-engaging with teammates ahead of kickoff. The quiet moments before the game allow him to reset mentally and prepare for the challenges that await once the opening whistle blows.

Off the field, he enjoys fishing and spending time playing the game he loves. Looking ahead, McNac carries lessons from athletics that extend beyond football.

“You’ve got to keep going when something’s hard,” he said. “You can’t give up.”

That mindset, along with his experience and leadership, positions McNac to make the most of his senior season while setting an example for younger players following in his footsteps.
